Our Commitment

Biraea is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance Status

Biraea aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We acknowledge that our conformance is partial and we are actively working to improve accessibility across the platform.

What We're Doing

  • Semantic HTML landmarks (main, nav, header, footer) across all pages
  • Form inputs with associated labels, error descriptions, and ARIA attributes
  • Keyboard-navigable interactive components
  • Color contrast ratios meeting WCAG AA standards (4.5:1 for normal text)
  • Screen reader-compatible announcements for dynamic content updates
  • Accessible mobile application with VoiceOver and TalkBack support

Known Limitations

While we strive for full conformance, some areas may have limitations:

  • Some user-uploaded images may lack descriptive alt text
  • Complex interactive features (games, drag-and-drop) may have limited keyboard support
  • Third-party content (advertisements, embedded links) may not meet our accessibility standards

Known Issues

The following accessibility issues are currently identified and being addressed:

  • Bingo card generator canvas output is not accessible to screen readers; a text-based alternative is planned
  • Game play mode polling UI may not announce state changes to assistive technology
  • Some modal dialogs may not correctly trap keyboard focus
  • Color contrast in certain themed visitor sites may fall below AA standards depending on user-chosen colors
  • PDF exports (bingo cards) lack tagged structure for screen readers

Remediation Roadmap

We are working on the following accessibility improvements:

  • Q1 2026 (Complete): Form accessibility audit and ARIA attribute improvements
  • Q2 2026 (In Progress): Keyboard navigation enhancements for all interactive components
  • Q3 2026: Automated accessibility testing integration (axe-core)
  • Q4 2026: WCAG 2.2 evaluation and conformance update

European Accessibility Act (EAA)

Biraea is partially conformant with EN 301 549 v3.2.1, which harmonises the accessibility requirements of the European Accessibility Act (Directive 2019/882). We are committed to meeting the accessibility requirements for digital services under the EAA and are actively working to close remaining gaps.

Users may lodge complaints with their national market surveillance authority if they believe Biraea does not meet the applicable accessibility requirements.
